Center of Technologies for Distant Education  

In 1997 the first for Ukraine laboratory on distant education was created in Kharkov State Technical University of Radioelectronics. Prof. Semenets was a head of the laboratory and Prof. Terziyan was a scientific supervisor.


The main goal of the lab is investigation of new information technologies for educational purposes. Several pilot projects have been carried out in laboratory. The scope of these projects concerned with different learning classes, labs simulator and virtual education environments..
On the ground of interuniversity workshops for teachers and tutors, which have been held by the laboratory, the International scientific conference “Education and Virtuality” was established in 2000. The participants of the conference are both universities teachers as well as practitioners from distant education companies.
During the years of the conference history, the experts from Ukraine, Russia, Latvia, Great Britain, Poland, Tajikistan and Finland attended the conference.
The topics of the conference is concerned but not limited with the following list: global information society, virtual education institution, distant education learning objects creation, computer testing of knowledge, the usage of telecommunications.

The University became a co-founder for Ukrainian Association for Distance Education (UADE) in 2000. The rector of the university, prof. Bondarenko is a president of UADE. The mission of the UADE is to join and coordinate efforts of institutions and organizations for developing of the united distance education system of Ukraine.

In 2001 on the basis of the laboratory, the Center of Technologies for Distant Education was established (the head, Dr. Cauk). Creation of learning objects and application of new information technologies in education process is the main objectives of the center. The center consists of

multimedia lecture auditorium,

the Virtual and Distance Learning Laboratory,

Methods Department, Testing Center.

 

In the framework of its activities the center of technologies for distant education accomplished some of the educational projects. For example, the series of interuniversity workshops for teachers and tutors, computer science contest for secondary school pupils, multimedia textbook contest, the project of digital rights legal basics. Under the financial support of International Renaissance Foundation the center carries out the project “System for distant education and collaboration of noncommercial internet projects managers”.
