  • Distributed artificial intelligence, multi-agent systems;

  • Integration, intelligent data processing and knowledge management in global networks;

  • Internet-based systems of electronic and mobile commerce;

  • Computational intelligence, adaptive neuro-, fuzzy-systems.

IDSS special ity offers the complex training of the specialist in the fields of the distributed systems of artificial intelligence, intelligent data analysis, electronic and mobile commerce, intelligent Internet technologies. It includes technical courses, management, international marketing and basis of scientific research, liberal arts.

International cooperation:

The main objective of the department is to train students at the internationally recognized level. AI Department has high potential and rich opportunities to reach this objective. Intelligence Decision Support Systems (IDSS) speciality has been founded in 1995. The curriculum of the speciality was developed by Ukrainian and international experts in conformity with the European Union standards and approved both by the Ministries of Education of Ukraine and Finland and by Partner Universities. That’s why the Diploma Supplement of IDSS graduate is accepted in any university of the world more easily. For now IDSS curriculum remains unique for Ukraininian Higher Education system up to date. That’s why Finnish University of Jyvaskyla and Dutch Vrije University of Amsterdam recognize Bachelor Degree of IDSS specialty of KNURE and gave (granted) Ukrainian exchanged students the second Master's training and diplomas in the field "Mobile Computing" and "Artificial Intelligence" correspondently.

One of the most important tasks of this kind of IDSS curriculum focusing on computer science was laying down the foundations of graduating students` innovation activities in the field being one of the most rapidly growing ones in the world – intelligent Internet and Web-applications. Fundamental innovations include semantic technologies (semantic declarative programming of distributed systems, development of ontologies and ontology-based global informational portals, knowledge management, Web-services, etc.); agent technologies (agent-based programming of autonomous and proactive systems, distributed artificial intelligence, multi-agent systems, etc.); techniques of intelligent information processing (Data and Web-Mining, heterogeneous information integration, processes integration, analysis and integration of multimedia information, etc. ); Ubiquitious computing technologies ( intelligent tools, interaction machine-machine, touch-sensitive networks, RFID, etc. ); Web 2.0 technology (intelligent and automatic social netoworks, intelligent processing of blogs, Wiki-systems and portals content, intelligent search of information, semantic Mash-Up, etc.) and other innovative technologies.

Due to the students international exchange programmes with Netherlands and Finland diploma of Master of Science were awarded to 70 graduates of IDSS and 17 graduates obtained PhD degree during 4 years in European universities.

Directorate for Education and Culture of European Commission recognized the joint Ukrainian-Finnish student exchange programme of IDSS and University of Jyvaskyla as the best international programme in Finland and recommended to study its experience for key Ukrainian policy-makers in the field of education and science who work on the higher education reform. Seminars presenting the experience of the many-years education and scientific international cooperation of Artificial Intelligence Department took place in Finland in the autumn of 2008 with financial support by the World Bank and European Training Foundation. The proposed initiatives and changes in the higher education system which are urgently required according to the obtained experience found positive response by the Ukrainian legislators and reflection in the new version of Ukrainian Law “About Higher Education” and “About Scientific-Technical Activities”. Thus, the staff of the department contributed to the reforms of the higher education system on its road to European recognition.

The Ukrainian-French program me in English for the joint group of the students of IDSS, KNURE, and Informational Technologies, ITIN, Cergy, France, which started in 2006 became t he next step in the development of the students exchange programmes and training students according to the joint curricula. According to the programme the key Ukrainian and French experts give the course in business-planing “ European Virtual Venturing ” in the mode of teleconferences. The goal of this programme – joint work of Ukrainian-French student groups at the development of business-plans for products or services related to the field of information (intelligent) technologies. Communication within the course is performed by means of tele-conferences which became possible because of use of fast Internet-access by the radio-technology WiMAX and video-conferences system Polycom VSX7000s. In 2008 the programme extended to the new qualitative level. The students of ITIN visited KNURE (AI department) within the students exchange programme. The training course in joint Ukrainian-French business arrangement was given for them and IDSS students by the French and Ukrainian lecturers. Roundtables with IT-business representatives were arranged. The students got acquired with peculiarities of joint business in Ukraine, the market condition, its demand and development directions and presented the developed business-plans to the lecturers and top-managers of the leading IT-companies. In the end of the visit the French students got the certificate of KNURE and the credits for the participation in the project are entered to the curricula of the Ukrainian and French universities.

Scientists of the department take part in the study in European universities within European projects and bilateral agreements and cooperate effectively with the best European scientists in the priority fields of Artificial Intelligence. Scientific results obtained by the scientists of the department allow creating efficient components of intelligent systems and complex decision support systems which are used in different domains and meet the world level which is confirmed by numeric international publications including invitations to the international conferences of the world level and invitations to the professors of the department to give lectures in universities of Finland, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

The high scientific and methodical level of the department staff is recognized both in Ukraine and in Europe. The confirmation for this is the provision of the financing from the State Fund of Fundamental Research of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for execution of the project for development of Ontology-based portal for management of the national education and scientific resources of Ukraine; financial support by the European Commission (Tempus project) of joint European projects for development of a new scheme for training of masters of science (1999-2001) and for development of a modern technology for transparent accreditation of universities (2007-2008) fulfilled within the international consortium of universities of Finland, Greece, Spain and France.

The technology introduced due to the last projects for transparent procedures of education quality evaluation and the pilot of the Ontology-based Portal for Management and Evaluation of the education resources allowed offering the wide access to the results of the procedures of accreditation and ranking of higher education institutions for all parties concern: students, employers, teachers, parents, governmental-experts, politicians, investors, etc. KNURE and AI Department are step-by-step performing the creation of the quality assurance system for higher education of the European level.

Applied projects of the scientists of the department are implemented in numeric industrial projects of such world-known companies as Nokia, JSP, Tekes, Fingrid, TeliaSonera, TietoEnator, Metso Automation, ABB. Because of this fact our students have a possibility to have courses content of which is in line with the modern world requirements for IT -applications and intelligent applications. That`s why the graduates of our department work in the leading Ukrainian and world-known companies: Nokia , Sonera, Nokia - Siemens Network , Digia , F - Secure , Futurice , International Marketmakers Combination , SapfoX , Eclipse , People . Net , Nix Solutions , etc. The most talented graduates of IDSS made their PhD thesis and act as researchers in Finnish universities of Jyvaskyla, Tampere, Vaasa, Portuguese university of Algarve, Dutch universities of Eindhoven and Amsterdam and Malta University of information technologies of st. Martin.
