The Department of Social Informatics (SI) ensures training of experts for
Bachelor’s and Specialist’s Degrees in the specialty “Competitive Intelligence” (CI) (“Concurrent
Surveillance”).
Specialty CI was introduced in Ukraine in 2004 as a result of the SI Department employees’
activity, it corresponds to the training in the direction “Knowledge Management” and “Business
Intelligence” taught at the European Universities. According to the foreign sources it is one of
the most claimed and highly paid in the world.
The graduates from the SI Department work with a pithy information and knowledge necessary
for the organization competitiveness. They provide administration with versions of managerial
solutions, help to solve emerging problems.
Scientific Directions:
Social Systemology (systemological ivestigations into social systems);
Social cognitology (theory, methods and instrumental means for knowledge systematization and
simulation);
Social Systems Engineering (theory, methods and instrumental means for system-object
simulation of socio-technical systems).
Students take an active part in the scientific work of the Department. They are authors and
co-authors of many articles and reports marked with awards. The students’ works are introduced into
production.
The SI Department was created on the basis of the scientific and training laboratory “
Knowledge Acquisition” headed by Rector of KNURE Honored Science and Technology Worker of Ukraine
Doctor of Technical Sciences Bondarenko Mikhail Fedorovich.
International Collaboration:
Scientists of the Department collaborate with the leading universities and scientific
establishments in the field of knowledge of the oriented systems and technologies in England
(London School of Economics & Political Science) and Russia (Institute of Systems Analysis of
Academy of Sciences of Russia). Employees of the Department constantly participate in the
scientific conferences of different level.
In 2004 the Head of the Department Soloviova E.A. gained Individual Mobility Grant
(IMG-UKR1015-2004) from European Union, Tempus, with the aim “To prepare a Joint European Project
(CD) for Curriculum and Courses Development of Master's and Bachelor's training in Social
Informatics specialism for integration into the European higher education system in accordance with
the Bologna Process».
In 2005 the SI Department took part in the applied for the Grant from European Union, Tempus
CD. Supervisor of the Grant is Rector of KNURE.

There are 5 teachers at the Department, among them there are 2 Doctors of Sciences, 2
Candidates of Sciences, 3 post-graduates and 1 probationer-investigator
