Systems engineering department

Information about the department

The department was founded in 1967 by authoritative scientist professor I.V. Kuzmin as the department of Theoretical Cybernetics of Kharkiv Institute of Radio Electronics. The department became a part of the faculty of Control Systems when it was founded in 1972 and was renamed to the department of Systems Engineering (SE).

Since 1968 the department has been training the students of the following specialties: initially “Automatics and Telemechanics” (“AT”), then “Automated Control Systems” (“ACS”). The development of science and technology led to differentiation of the specialties and the “ACS” separated into several specialties related to engineering and control computer systems development (in different years there were “CAD Systems”, “Computer Design Systems”, “Automated Control in Technical and Organizational Systems”, by now it is “Information Engineering Technology”) and systems of control and automation (“SCA”).

Since 1998 the Systems Engineering department has been training specialists in “IET” (Information Engineering Technology) of 050101 – Computer Science and “SCA” (Systems of Control and Automation) of 050201 – Systems Engineering.

Since 1976 the academician of International Academy of Informatization, Doctor of Science (Technology), Professor Eduard G. Petrov has been in the head of the department.

The Systems Engineering department has a branch in SJSC “Institute of Automated Systems (IAS)” which is a scientific and production basis for students’ practical training. The head of the branch is general director of the IAS, Doctor Bronislav A. Kolesnik.
